We are a small family business with big dreams. Founder, owner and Head Chef Ken has wanted to start his own omakase sushi bar for a long time.
In May 2019, his dream became reality and he opened his sushi bar in a small shared location in Amsterdam Oud West.
After a number of moves and temporary locations, we have finally been able to create our own, permanent and spacious place in the center of Amsterdam through crowdfunding. Ken now runs the restaurant together with his younger brother, co-owner and Sous Chef Tom.
The brothers have Thai roots and the love and passion for good and fresh food has been there from an early age. Although their personalities differ, their professional paths have crossed again and again. Both managed to repeatedly turn their passions into jobs. They started as skate instructors/performers and literally and figuratively rolled into the theater. They toured for years, in the Netherlands and abroad, with various performances and taught their skills to youngsters during youth projects.
After their theater careers, both brothers became sushi chefs and Ken started dreaming of starting his own business. Ken Sushi was created with his great passion for omakase sushi and the great desire to support his family financially!
Ken is self-taught and trains his chefs himself. Chefs Jonathan, James, Maurice, Stijn and apprentice Mark complete our chefs team.
Ken and Tom's wives provide important value to the family business in the background. Nephew, host and bartender Sky, leads the Front of House team and receives help from the nicest and talented employees. He is looking forward to opening the bar and bringing more fizz to that part of our building. Sister-in-law Nid is our rock in the kitchen and Queen Back of House.
