Welcome to Ken Sushi, we are an omakase Japanese style sushi bar. Omakase means "I'll leave it up to you". During the omakase you will be surprised by the chefs who freshly prepare the sushi with lots of love and passion, with an accompanying explanation of the ingredients.
Eating at Ken Sushi is really an experience. Not only the delicious, high-quality food and the story behind it, but also the attention, hospitality and cozy atmosphere complete the experience. This distinguishes us from other omakase places.
Who are we?
We are a small family business with big dreams. Founder, owner and Head Chef Ken has had a long-standing desire to start his own omakase sushi bar. In 2019 this dream became reality and he opened his sushi bar in a small shared location in Amsterdam Oud West. After some wanderings and temporary locations, we now finally have our own spacious place in the center of Amsterdam. Ken runs the restaurant with his younger brother, co-owner and Sous Chef Tom.
Ken is self-taught and trains his cooks himself. The brothers have Thai roots and the love and passion for good food has been there since childhood. Although their personalities differ, their professional paths have crossed again and again. Both succeeded time and time again in turning their passion into a job. This is how they started as skate instructors / performers and literally and figuratively rolled into the theater. They toured at home and abroad with various performances and transferred their skills during youth projects. After their theater careers, both brothers became sushi chefs and Ken had the dream of starting his own business. Because of his great passion for omakase sushi and the great desire to support his family financially, Ken Sushi was created!
We serve omakase sushi. Omakase means: 'I'll leave it up to you / I entrust to you'. As a guest at Ken Sushi you sit at the sushi bar opposite the chef(s). During the omakase you will be surprised by the chefs who freshly prepare the sushi with lots of love and passion, with an accompanying explanation of the ingredients. We serve omakase sushi as in a traditional sushi bar in Japan, with of course Ken's own interpretation and signature. We use the best quality original sushi rice (vinegared rice) at 37°, of course served with fresh fish at the right temperature. We currently do not have a vegetarian/vegan omakase menu available.
Each guest starts with the omakase menu, which consists of 20 pieces. On the evening itself you can choose to expand to 25 pieces. Any upgrade and drinks will be settled on the evening itself after dinner. The omakase takes an average of 2.5 hours.

With this omakase, Ken opts for even more luxurious and complex flavors than with the omakase experience / regular. Think, for example, of special products that are difficult to import from a.o. Japan. With this he creates a spectacular menu every weekend. Something our guests have been looking forward to for a long time!
Extreem lekker en super bijzonder en intiem restaurant. Ken vertelt met grote passie over de japanse keuken en de vissen die hij gebruikt. Zelden zo mindful gegeten, 1 sushi per gang, ik zat de helft van de tijd met mijn ogen dicht zodat ik nog beter kon genieten. Ga voor de Gold Experience, ik heb spijt dat ik het niet deed maar mijn tafelgenoten deden het wel en waren blown away. Boeken! nu! Beter dan dit wordt sushi eten niet.
This was my second time at Ken sushi. I was impressed with the care and friendliness that awaited me. From the personal greeting of Sky to the placement of my sushi for my left hand, all the little details are noted by the team. Also, Skys recommendations on wine are not to be missed. They have some unusual wines that make for exciting pairings
